CATHY TAYLOR MOSAICS & CLAY WORKS

"In both my mosaic and ceramic work I am about variety and embracing the diverse opportunities which that provides. Generally my work is representative of my surroundings. I enjoy my perennial gardens, bird watching, and lakeside living so often those are themes in my narrative pottery pieces and mosaics.

I use a range of clay varying from cool white translucent porcelain to the warmth of brown earthenware and corresponding finishes for each. I hope my hand built pieces show the joy I have for my decorating process. I utilize stamps, molds, slip trailing and coloured glazes inspired by vintage crockery and sketchbook designs.

 I create my pieces especially for embellishment to allow incorporating wood, wire, leather and handmade beads for a unique touch.

My mosaics range from realism to abstract where once again my outdoor adventures influence my work. I am always on the lookout for interesting items....either finding, collecting or creating them to incorporate into my pieces."
