About the event

Join Minden Hills Cultural Centre and Haliburton County Public Library for a special screening of “Malartic” (2024) on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 1:00 PM. The documentary by Nicolas Paquet examines the disparity between the wealth generated by a large open-pit gold mine in Malartic and the town's economic decline. It highlights the imbalance of power, where local residents have little influence over decisions affecting their community. Through a mix of anthropological study and investigative journalism, the film explores issues of transparency and fair land management.  Admission is free. All ages are welcome. No pre-registration is required. The documentary is provided courtesy of the National Film Board (NFB).
