Arts Council Welcomes Gail Stelter as Education Coordinator

Tuesday August 17, 2010
www.haliburtonarts.on.ca
The Arts Council~Haliburton Highlands is pleased to welcome Gail Stelter as the new Education Coordinator for the Artists in the Schools Program. Gail, a retired elementary school principal, combines her expertise in curriculum with her love and appreciation of the arts. “I am very excited to be working with the talented artists and excellent teachers of Haliburton County. This program is unique in its ability to support our arts community while at the same time, enriching and enhancing the learning for our children”. In addition to managing all aspects of the Artists in the Schools Program, Gail will be seeking funding for the program through grant writing and community fundraising events and sponsorships.
Gail has cottaged in the Highlands since 1995 and lived here permanently since 2008. Her many interests include her volunteer work at Canoe FM as an on-air host on Friday mornings “After Nine” and her radio interviews with a wide variety of community members. “Canoe FM has afforded me the opportunity to explore the art of radio, write radio promos and take on many special projects such as coordinating this year's Rotary Radio Day and the station's Christmas charity project “Warm Hands for Christmas”. Another of Gail's passions is Food for Kids, Haliburton County's Student Nutrition Program. “Giving back to our community's most valuable resource – our children – as a member of the Food for Kids Steering Committee (where her duties include being the Communication Rep and Fundraising Coordinator) has allowed me to continue to make a difference in the lives of children.”
Gail is always looking for ways to facilitate growth and improve programs. As the new Education Coordinator for the Artists in the Schools program, Gail will be writing Curriculum Connections Packages designed according each artist's unique talent s and skills; to the demands of the Ontario Arts Curriculum; and, according to the needs and interests of individual teachers. She also is planning several workshops and presentations throughout the county. Gail is a natural leader whose enthusiastic and outgoing personality is sure to be enjoyed by all.
